Theresa Perez, 83, of Lubbock, TX, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. She was born on October 16, 1940, to Porfirio and Bonifacia Gonzales.
Theresa married the love of her life, Gregorio Perez on October 15, 1982. They shared 36 years together. She graduated from Wayland Baptist University with her bachelor’s degree in bilingual education. She began teaching in Petersburg, TX in 1981, and retired from Midland, TX in 2008.
She had a tremendous love for God, with a faith that never waivered. She was a Cursillista and a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
Theresa loved many things, and one of the things she held dearest was her time spent with her family. Whether it was a holiday, birthday, or an event for her grandchildren, she was sure to be present with them. She was vibrant, loving, and the heart of her family.
She is deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by four sons, Ruben Contreras and wife Elpi, Ralph Contreras and wife Lisa, Roy Contreras and wife Ellie, and Randy Contreras and wife Becky; one step daughter Carolina Johnson; three sisters Alice Huey, Janie Garza, and Mary Ester Head; one brother Roy Gonzales; eleven grandchildren Phillip, Zach, Carlie, Christopher, Jeremiah, Matthias, Miriam, Sarah, Veronica, Laura, and Xavier; and 5 great grandchildren Ryleigh, Pecos, Paxton, Jude, and Rocky.
Theresa is preceded by her husband Gregorio Perez; parents Porfirio and Bonifacia Gonzales; and one sister Diane Hinojosa.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 1:00p.m.–8:00p.m. at the Venue on Broadway with the Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 11:00a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Petersburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Contreras, Zach Contreras, Matthias Contreras, Christopher Contreras, Xavier Contreras, and Phillip Contreras.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church or The Nurturing Center.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
