Thom Ulrichsen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crosby & Neal Funeral Homes and Cremation Care, Newport from Sep. 19 to Sep. 20, 2024.
Corinna - Thom S. Ulrichsen, born on the 28th of November, 1955, in New Bedford, MA, was a man of many splendid attributes. He was an adventurous soul with a humble heart, a talented craftsman, and a thoughtful listener. His love for the outdoors only surpassed by his passion for fly fishing and exploring the lakes of the state he called home.
Thom was an accomplished mechanic, having started his career at Scandia Propellor. His talent and dedication led him to co-found Harbor Hydraulics & Machine with his brother and later work for Brodeur Machine. Upon relocating to Maine, he joined Caterpillar Machine and ultimately retired from Chadwick Baross. Thom was more than a skilled mechanic; he was a mentor to many, always willing to lend a hand and share his knowledge. His work ethic was unmatched, and he wore his heart on his sleeve, always quick to help anyone in need.
Thom's gifted hands crafted beautiful bird carvings and furniture, restored boats, and even built a custom canoe and skiff. He was a great storyteller who would always pause his tasks to chat when friends stopped by or called. Family time was a cherished part of Thom's life, and he valued the moments spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his sisters, Ann E Ulrichsen Burge and of Winterhaven, FL and Carol Jennings of Fairhaven, MA; his brother John Petter and his wife, Sharon of Fairhaven, MA and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ingrid and Jens P. Ulrichsen; sister and brother in law, Ingrid and Geoff Purvis and two brother in laws, James Burge and William Jennings.
Services celebrating Thom's life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairhaven, Ma on October 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Luncheon at Century House, Acushnet, Ma at 12:00 PM.
A gathering will be held at The VFW Corinna Post 73, 86 Maple St. Corinna, Maine on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
As we remember Thom, we pay tribute to a man of profound respect and kindness. We invite you to share your memories of Thom and upload photos to the memorial page. Each story and picture will serve as a testament to the life of this remarkable man and help us keep his memory alive.

Thom, so many great memories I have and will cherish forever. Weather hiking in to check out a remote pond to fish or sitting in your shop talking and telling stories for hours on end. I learned so much from you. I'm very glad you stopped by in July for a quick visit. You are missed, rest in peace my friend.

A place that reminds me of my Uncle Stephen, well. As God created earth, everything around me of nature will remind me if him. Also, Horses, Fishing, Target Shooting at Freon cans and things, Drives, Phone conversations, His big Hugs! He was an avid Fisherman that made fishing rods, fishing flies, fish nets for scooping up fish with care as he never wanted to hurt a fish he was releasing back into the water so it could grow. All his help on Mechanical tolerances and when you talk, be accurate in description so others know how to help or understand. I will have the greatest memories as will my brother, Mom, wife, kids and all who loved and knew him. If you knew my Uncle Stephen, your journey to knowing TRUST just began. He was an honest trustworthy person who loved to teach and pass on all whatever knowledge he could to help others.
