Thomas Antle Obituary

Athens Thomas "Tom" Antle passed away on Saturday, March 22, after a brief illness and a courageous battle between remaining on Earth and joining Jesus. In the end, Jesus called him home.

Born on July 30, 1955, Tom spent his life in Athens County, where he worked and built lasting relationships. He dedicated 40 years of service to the Kroger Company before retiring, later working as a carrier for the Pathology Laboratory.

A well-known figure in the Athens area, Tom was recognized for his exceptional athleticism, particularly in long-distance running. Over his lifetime, he completed 20 marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon. Later in life, he found joy in long-distance biking with friends, always embracing an active and healthy lifestyle. An avid hunter and sportsman, Tom cherished his time in the woods-especially during turkey season. For him, nature was more than a pastime; it was a sacred space where he felt closest to God, often engaging in deep, heartfelt conversations with Him.

Beyond his personal pursuits, Tom was devoted to his faith. He served as an Associate Pastor at the Living Water Worship Center in Albany, alongside his brother in Christ, Pastor Jimmy Stewart. He found immense joy in guiding lost souls to Christ, witnessing their transformations, and lifting his voice in praise, always giving glory to God for everything in his life. His unwavering faith shaped his journey, and his greatest love was for his wife, Sheila, his children, and his grandchildren.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

We find peace in knowing that Tom ran his final mile straight into the arms of Jesus.

Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Antle. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Sheila Evener Antle; his son, Michael (Maria); his daughter, Lindsey Antle McAuley (Olly); his parents, Bob and Martha Antle; his sister, Peggy Antle Woods (Henry); his brother, Tim Antle (Krista); and his cherished grandchildren: Skylie Jo, Dolan, Layla, Olivia, Crosby, and Oziah.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Living Water Worship Center beginning at 11AM with Pastor Jimmy Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery. You may call upon the family at Hughes Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 4PM - 7PM. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes Funeral Home where you may sign the online guestbook or leave the family a message of sympathy at www.ehwfh.com. Thomas Robert "Tom" Antle

I've known Tom for years while running and chatting on the bike path. Tom was the most kind and generous runner--and person--I have known. He had great stories to tell (and he loved to tell them), but he was always interested in other people. He was real Running Royalty. It was an honor to know him, and I will dearly miss him.
