Thomas D. Battaglini, 82, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois. He was born on April 7, 1943, in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, to Anthony and Mary Ann (Korcovich) Battaglini.

Thomas spent his early years in Pennsylvania before moving with his family to Yuma, Arizona, where he graduated from Yuma High School. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country with honor. Following his discharge, he spent time in California before eventually settling in Northern Illinois, where he would build his life and career.

He dedicated much of his working life to Wood’s Equipment as a skilled tool and die maker. Known for his precision and craftsmanship, Thomas took quiet pride in his work. It was a career that suited him well, combining his natural curiosity, problem-solving mind, and love of working with his hands.

Thomas was a man who found meaning in the simple things. He did not seek attention, but instead valued the quiet, steady moments that make up a life well lived. He was a present and involved father, taking joy in his children’s activities as they grew.

He found happiness in the everyday, sharing morning coffee with friends, working on projects, coming up with new ideas, and always learning something new. He enjoyed long drives on perfect days in his Thunderbird and took pride in perfecting his New York-style cheesecake. A lifelong reader, Thomas was rarely without a book, always eager to learn or get lost in a good story.

He was a proud member of Oregon Lodge 420 and a Master Mason for 30 years.

He spoke of his grandchildren often, sharing stories with friends and taking quiet pride in who they were becoming.

Those who knew him will remember his dry, sometimes irreverent, sense of humor, his thoughtful nature, and the quiet depth of his care for the people he loved. He had a way of showing up in small but meaningful ways, leaving a lasting impression on those closest to him.

He is survived by his children, Sara Gerard and David (Molly) Battaglini; his grandchildren, William, Griffin, and Wes; his brother, Virgil (Dolly) Battaglini; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Ann, and his siblings Carmen, Anthony, Concetta, and James.

Cremation rites were accorded to Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108.
