Thomas Benesch Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Aug. 11, 2018.
Thomas Richard Benesch went to be with the Lord on August 11, 2018. Thomas was born January 4, 1932 in Amarillo, Texas to Gladys and Richard Benesch. After graduating from Amarillo High School, he attended The University of Texas where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Tom graduated from the University of Texas in 1955, and then went on to serve in the Army until 1957. Tom worked for the City of Lubbock from 1957 to 1959, and then worked for IBM until 1964. In 1964, Tom purchased Business and Professional Services, which he owned up until his death. Tom ran his business with love and care and many of his employees have been working there since the 1980s. Despite his health, Tom met routinely with key employees to discuss the status of the business. His employees returned the love and respect for him by sharing his favorite meals with him at the Forum at Lincoln Heights up until his last days. Tom was a loving husband to his wife of 44 years, Jane Bickham Benesch, and spent his last years with her at The Forum at Lincoln Heights. Despite her stroke, he could always make her smile and laugh. Tom was a loving father to his three stepdaughters- Elizabeth Ashby Crites, Shelley Ashby Reinhardt, and Suzanne Ashby Robertson. He loved and always had good advice for their husbands- Carter Raymond Crites, Steven Edward Reinhardt, and John Malcolm Robertson, Jr. Tom adored his grandchildren- John Malcolm Robertson, III, Olivia Flores Robertson, Jane Elizabeth Robertson, Nancy Naylor Reeves, Patrick Todd Reeves, Katherine Mitchell Crites, Travis Steven Kerr, Suzanna Kathleen Reinhardt and Emily Rebecca Reinhardt. Tom also adored his precious great-granddaughters- Charlotte Jane Reeves and Elda Elizabeth Robertson. Tom loved his family, his business, hunting, playing golf and watching Texas Longhorn football. Tom had sayings that none of us will forget his favorite one was "nothing good happens after midnight". Tom encouraged all of us to stick with what we started and never quit. His parents Gladys and Richard who adored their "Tommy Dick" precede Tom in death and they will be so happy to reunite with him in Heaven. Our family would like to thank the kind staff at The Forum at Lincoln Heights and Heart to Heart Hospice for their Loving care for Tom.
