Thomas "Tom" Biltgen, age 75, of Oswego, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 24, 1950, in Chicago, IL, Tom lived a life filled with laughter, loyalty, and love. Over the years, his work spanned from food service to automotive repair and back again - but his greatest and proudest title was "Papa." He lovingly provided "Papa Care" for many of his grandchildren and could often be found cheering them on from the sidelines, offering encouragement, and celebrating every accomplishment, big or small.
Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Biltgen (nee Halverson); daughters Tammy Scott, April (Derek) Doorneweerd, and Renee (Dave) Watkins; and grandchildren Thomas Watkins, Amelia Doorneweerd, Peyton Watkins, Valerie Doorneweerd, Henry Watkins, Hannah Scott, and Haylee Scott. He is also survived by his siblings Mark Biltgen, Geoff Biltgen, Kathy (Tony) Esposito, Eileen Hernley, Peggy (Tom) Fiese, and Matt (Susie) Biltgen, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, softball teammates, and golf buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louise Biltgen, and his brother Jon "Choohc" Biltgen.
Tom's greatest joys were found on the softball field, the golf course, and in the simple, everyday moments spent with those he loved. He always had the right outfit for the occasion - whether it was the perfect hat for whichever Chicago team was playing that day, his red and black buffalo plaid "suit" for Raiders activities, or a full-on leprechaun outfit for Seneca High School events or the twins' St. Patrick's Day birthday. He shined on the field in his bright orange Eagles jersey every time his super fans watched from the sideline. His quirky sense of humor, generous spirit, and easy laugh will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Though he would never admit it, his family insists that his "favorite" color was purple - a long-running family joke that never failed to make him roll his eyes and smile.
A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at 10:07 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Wesley United Methodist Church (14 N. May St., Aurora, IL), with a reception to follow.
Out of care for family members with asthma and allergies, the family kindly requests no flowers or plants. Those wishing to honor Tom's memory may instead make a memorial gift in his name to Wesley United Methodist Church.
