Thomas George Bliss

1948 - 2026

Thomas George Bliss, 77, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of professional dedication and quick-witted humor. Born in Adrian, Michigan, in May 1948, Tom was raised in Michigan but spent the majority of his life in West Virginia. A respected figure in the cemetery industry, Tom served for many years as a salesperson and manager. He was known for his unique ability to bring levity to his profession, often jokingly remarking to friends and colleagues that he "sold dirt" for a living. Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie Hall-Bliss, his parents, and his sister. He is survived by his children, Rev. Bryan (Michelle) Bliss of St. Paul, MN, and Beth (Corey) Teague of San Francisco, CA; his brother, Bob (Susan) Bliss of Charleston; and his grandchildren, Nora, Ben, and Lucy. He is also survived by Walter and Susan Hall, and Teresa and TJ Morris; his nephews, Brett and Blake Morris; nieces, Karen Bliss Dalzell, Judy Weckerly, Nancy Bliss ; and a community of close friends. Funeral services will be held at Cunningham, Parker & Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 5:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm. We will continue to celebrate Tom's life at The Café in St. Albans from 6-8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 25177 Foundation, PO Box 1202 St. Albans, WV 25177. An avid golfer, Tom was a passionate sports fan who often told his children he wanted the words on his headstone to read: "Here lays one in a hole who never had a hole in one."
