Thomas James Bonnel, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO. He was born on August 15, 1958, in Maryland, the son of the late John Francis Bonnel and Paula (Nugent) Bonnel.
As a son in a Navy family, Tom moved throughout the country but is a proud graduate of Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, MI. Tom embarked on a career with Safelite Auto Glass in Tulsa, OK, before continuing his professional journey at Stresscrete after moving to Lancaster in 2013.
Tom was a devoted husband to his wife, Dorothy Ann "DeAnn" (Jenkins) Bonnel. Together, they nurtured a loving family that includes their children: Danny Hilton, Jr. and his wife Vicki, Jennifer Powell and her husband Josh, and Thomas James "TJ" Bonnel, Jr. His legacy lives on through his six cherished grandchildren: Vanessa Hilton, Tiffany Hilton, Keegan Bonnel, Lorali Powell, Zailey Powell, and Kaiser Powell. He is also survived by his brother, John Bonnel, and his two sisters, Mary "Beth" Hudson and her husband Todd, and Denise Porter.
Known for his passion for sports, Tom, hailing from the Northern Midwest, was an enthusiastic fan of hockey, proudly supporting the Detroit Red Wings. He also enjoyed cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. In addition to his love for sports, Tom was often found tinkering in the garage or working on motorcycles, a testament to his hands-on nature.
A visitation will take place on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at St. Ann's Church, 301 William Street, Effingham, KS. This will be followed by a funeral mass beginning at 1:00 PM, with interment at St. Ann's Cemetery. Fr Roopesh Govindu will serve as celebrant.
