Thomas H. Boyd Jr., a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on August 20, 2023, at the age of 89.
Thomas was born on November 1st, 1933, in
Hugheston, WV, to his late parents, Thomas H. Boyd Sr. and Emma Bell (Boyd) Sizemore. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy on the USS Wasp during the Korean War. Following his military service, Thomas met Peggy Sue. They married on April 21, 1956. His career was dedicated to the manufacturing industry working for GE and Caterpillar until his retirement.
Thomas "Papa" was a man of honor and integrity. He was kind, honest, strong, gentle, loving, and caring. He led by example and taught all of his children and grandchildren the importance of family unity. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, spending most of his family vacations camping in the Allegheny Mountains or visiting family in West Virginia. He had four daughters that he taught to ride a dirt bike and shoot a shotgun at an early age. He never believed in shooting anything you would not put on the table for dinner, because of his love of animals and respect for nature.
In 2009 Thomas and his daughters bought property in Southern Ohio. After years of sweat and hard work alongside his family, "Camp Boyd" was born. "Camp Boyd" became the gathering place of family and friends, a place to hunt, ride ATVs, and sit by the fire or a front porch swing. Most importantly, it was the place to build memories with loved ones that will last a lifetime. His imprint will forever be on this property and the love and hard work he put into it. His legacy is the love, strength and wisdom that will forever be a guiding light to his family. He lived, he loved and he blessed the lives of all who knew him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years, Peggy Boyd (Proctor), children, Diane Torres (Michael Dean, deceased), Belinda Kay Balser (Randall), Sandy Dagg (Tim), and Tammy Mazzolini (Michael), who were touched by his guidance and filled with a profound love for their father. Thomas also held a special place in the hearts of his cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Avila, Thomas King (Angela), Kristen Balser, Joseph McCallister (Ashley), Danny Dagg (Taylor), Randall Bulman (Brianna), Robert Bulman, Shannon Wargo (Michael), and Tara Bulman. Step grandchildren Eric Torres, Joe Torres (Lindsay), and Jessica Torres. He adored his great-grandchildren: Cora, Audrey, Jaiden, Devin, Madilyn, Christian, Lily, Grayson, Emma, Aubriele, Scarlett, Kinsley, and Weston. Step-great-grandchildren Isaac, and Addison. Thomas was preceded in death by his loving sisters, Colleen Buster and Rosie Babiak, who have welcomed him into eternal peace.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Monreal Srnick Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd,
Eastlake, OH 44095. The funeral service to honor and celebrate Thomas's remarkable life will be held on August 25, 2023, at Noon at the funeral home. Thomas will be laid to rest at Old Larned Cemetery (Chardon Township Cemetery).
