Thomas J. Brautigam

Thomas John Brautigam, age 90 (and a half!) of Appleton, WI passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and gentle wisdom. Known for his steadfast nature and generous heart, he touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Animals were naturally drawn to Tom, Sensing the quiet kindness that defined him. A lifelong car enthusiast, Thomas found joy in the open roads and the simple pleasure of a well-kept vehicle. When he wasn’t enjoying car rides around Wisconsin, he could often be found tending to his yards or visiting his wife, Beverly, at Brewster Village until her death in 2006. His love of working outdoors brought him both peace and purpose, and his yards reflected the care and patience he showed in every part of his life. Thomas was a gentle soul with a storyteller’s spirit. His grandchildren will forever cherish the hours spent listening to his tales of growing up in Appleton in a large, Catholic family, and the army songs he sang with pride and humor. These moments, filled with laughter and love, will remain treasured memories.

Tom will be deeply missed by Sara (Tim) Griesbach and their two children; his daughter, Shannon Webb and her three children; his son, Matthew (Kari) Brautigam and their seven children; his 10 great-grandchildren; as well as his siblings, many nieces and nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.

Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; his parents, Rita and Michael Brautigam; Beverly’s parents, Delores and Harvey Buss; and his siblings, Robert Brautigam and Carol Keating.

In respect to Tom’s wishes, no services will be held. Tom will be laid to rest alongside his wife at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton, WI in the Spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating instead to your local humane society in honor of Tom’s affinity with animals.

Tom leaves behind a family who loved him and will miss him dearly. Though he has left this world, the stories he told, the songs he sang, and the love he shared will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
