Thomas Bridges

Thomas Woodrow Bridges Sr., affectionately known as "Woody," passed away on July 1, 2025, in Maumelle, Arkansas. He was born on February 26, 1941, in Gaffney, South Carolina, where his roots would shape a life filled with rich experiences and meaningful connections.

Woody dedicated a substantial part of his professional career to Smith Office Machines in Shreveport, Louisiana, and CAE USA, where his technical acumen made a lasting impact. Woody proudly served as a Flight Simulator Technician on C-130 airplanes at the Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas, contributing to the nation’s military efforts.

A man of many talents, Woody had a passion for music that resonated throughout his life. He played numerous instruments by ear, including the guitar, banjo, and piano. His love for music was evident when he performed as a member of a country western band in Bossier City, Louisiana, known as the "Real McCoys." This artistic outlet enriched not only his life but also brought joy to those who had the pleasure of hearing him play.

Woody is survived by his loving children, Susan Michelle Woods and Thomas Woodrow Bridges Jr. (Stephanie), as well as his cherished grandchildren Amanda Dodson, Ashley Bridges Freeland, Jennifer Bridges, and Steven Bridges. He also leaves behind his sister, Juanita Herrin, of Gaffney, South Carolina, Sister-in-Law Marita Bivens of Little Rock, Arkansas, Brother-in-Law Bill Neu of Benton, Arkansas, Brother-in-Law Jim Lanier of Russellville Arkansas as well as many nieces and nephews that he cherished. They will carry forward his legacy with fond memories of his warmth and talent.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary James Bridges, and his parents, Wofford and Etta Bridges. Woody's family reunites in mourning for their loss alongside his brothers Gene, Bobby Joe, and Bennie Bridges, sisters Laverna Sparks and Doris "Sis" Keller, sister-in-law Beverly Lanier, Brother and Sister-in-Law Ralph and Shirley James, Sister-in-Law Johnnie Neu, and Brother-in-Law Gail Bivens, who have also passed.

A visitation will be held in Woody's honor on July 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Little Rock, Arkansas. Following this, a graveside service will take place at Pinecrest Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas, beginning at 12:00 PM and concluding at 1:00 PM.

As we remember Thomas Woodrow Bridges Sr., we celebrate a life lived with passion, talent, and dedication to family and country. His legacy will endure through the stories shared by those who loved him.
