Thomas Broom Obituary
The family will receive friends from 1:30- 3 PM Tuesday June 4, 2024 at Grace Chapel Baptist Church, 475 S. Shiloh Rd., York, SC 29745. The funeral service will start at 3 PM with Pastor Thomas Broom officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.
Tommy was born on October 19, 1938, in York County, SC. He was the son of the late Tom Broom and Frances Boatwright Broom. He was a member of Grace Chapel Baptist Church in York. All his life Tommy was a very active person. He loved the Lord and he loved his family and friends. Through the years Tommy was very busy working in the Baptist church serving as chairman of the deacons, chairman of the trustees, chairman of the brotherhood and numerous other capacities.
Tommy was a very hard-working individual. He was the owner and operator of Broom's Garage in York. Tommy also taught auto mechanics at Floyd D. Johnson Vocational Center at York Comprehensive High School.
Tommy loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Tommy's favorite job was being a professional grand paw.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 65 years Phyllis Clark Broom, his children Lee Broom (Ann), and Gayle Dover (Leslie). Also, his grandchildren Thomas Broom (Erica), and Christopher Dover (Anna), along with his great grand son Noah Dover. His brother Jimmy Broome and Grover Broome (Sybil).
In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brothers Roger Broome and Ricky Broome; his sisters-in-law Jean Broome, Donna Broome and Faye Rose Clark, his brothers-in-law Garland Clark, Bobby Goforth.

Phyllis, Lee, Gayle and all the grandchildren: we are sorry to hear about Tommy, but at age 85, he's had a wonderful life. Ron and I always enjoyed visiting with him. He always had pleasant stories to share. His smile was infectious. May God wrap His loving arms around each of you and give the love, peace and comfort. Earth is not our home. Tommy is home now, walking the streets of gold with our Heavenly Father, praising Jesus. We'll see him again. Love & prayers, Nancy, Darin & Scarlet
