Thomas McKinley Burress, of Severna Park, Maryland, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025.
Born on March 29, 1947, in Jewell Valley, Virginia, Thomas was the son of the late Goldie and Harvie Burress. He served his country proudly in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant. After his discharge from the military, Thomas went on to work for Maryland Transportation Authority as a maintenance mechanic for 40 years. He enjoyed all things outdoors – hunting, fishing, camping, and kayaking, as well as cheering on the Ravens and Orioles.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Jane L. Burress; loving children, Shawnee (Brent) Brindle, Thomas (Trish) Burress, and David (Kelly) Burress; his beloved step-children, Christian (Joanna) Everest and Amy (Bill) Kimball; cherished grandchildren, Christopher Brindle, Nathan Burress, Brandi Burress, Austin Burress, Brandon Burress, and Crystal Harden; caring step-grandchildren, Christian Everest, Alex Everest, Grady Kimball, and Emmett Kimball; adored great-grandchildren, Ashton Simpson, Laila Burress, Maelee Burress, Nolan Root, Thomas Harden, Rosalee Harden and Harper Harden; dear siblings, Danny (Chris) Burress, Rocco Burress, Randy (Alisa) Burress, and Eva (Walter) Simmons; and remembered sister-in-law, Eva Burress. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his siblings, Wayne Burress and Rita Burress.
Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of Thomas, on Friday, April 25th, at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, S.W. (at Crain Highway), from noon to 1 pm. A Celebration of Life memorial service will follow at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment, with military honors, at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake by visiting www.hospicechesapeake.org.
