Thomas "Tom" E. Cale, 86, passed away on February 13, 2026 at his residence.

He was born in Hartford City on June 3, 1939 to Paul Leroy Cale and Hazel Lucille (Sutton) Cale. His parents precede him in death.

Tom graduated from Hartford City High School in 1957 and attended Ball State College. He served in the United States Army from November of 1961 until October of 1963.

He married Nancy Jane (Malott) on June 4, 1960 in Hartford City at the EUB Church in Hartford City.

Tom dedicated much of his life to farming in Blackford County.

Tom served as a Blackford County Councilman for 21 years and formerly held the position of council president.

He was a proud Blackford County Purdue Agriculture Alumni and actively participated on the trip committee, enjoying numerous agricultural excursions for many years.

He was a member of AMVETS, the Elks Lodge and the Blackford County Historical Society. He was also a charter member of the Blackford-Delaware Pork Producers.

He was well known for his cheerful demeanor, always quick with a joke and a smile.

Tom loved to travel, whether it was cruising on riverboats or exploring destinations overseas.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy J. Cale of Hartford City; son, Patrick T. (wife, Becki) Cale of Hartford City; grandchildren, Cecily Cale (companion, Chace Wimmer), Olivia (husband, Chase) Messer, Katie Cale (companion, Logan Stephens), Leah Cale and Hunter Cale; great-grandchildren, Michael Wilson, Cole Messer, Anna Messer, Mia Messer and Rory Wimmer; brother, Richard P. Cale of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Ann Cale of Shawnee, OK; several nieces and nephews.

Tom is also preceded in death by his son, infant Anthony A. Cale and Michael L. Cale, brother Donald L. Cale

Visitation, funeral service and burial for Tom are all private for the family.

Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. in Hartford City is in charge of arrangements.
