Thomas Catalano entered the world on June 26, 1942, in Bronx, NY, born to Charles and Giaconda (nee Giampaolo) Catalano. On December 25, 2023, he peacefully departed from this world at his home, surrounded by his devoted family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Giaconda, father, Charlie, and his mother-in-law, Michelina Smith.
Thomas dedicated his career to the field of science, obtaining his master's degree in Toxicology and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He initially started his career as a Chemist at Searle and rose to the role of Senior Director in Analytical Research & Development at Pfizer and Theravance. In this capacity, he played a crucial role in guiding the development of several transformative medications. Before venturing into the scientific arena, Thomas had a fulfilling career with the New York City Police Department, starting his service as a patrolman, working in the youth division, crime lab and retiring as a Detective.
Upon retirement, Thomas pursued his passion for writing and became a published author of four books, spanning both fiction and educational literature on scientific best practices. He also continued his involvement in the world of science by establishing his own consulting company, PharmChem Analytical. Thomas took pride in sharing his knowledge by teaching classes at Roosevelt University and contributing to the board at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Additionally, he actively reviewed and endorsed the acceptance of PhD candidates.
