Thomas Cooper Obituary

Thomas Randolph "Tom" Cooper, of Mountain Falls, Virginia, a loving brother and favorite uncle, peacefully passed away at his home on August 8, 2025. He was suffering from being annoyed by his little sister.

Tom was born in Winchester on August 25, 1951, while Truman was still President of the United States. He attended Gore Elementary and James Wood High School, graduating in 1969. He furthered his education after high school graduation, attending the United Electronics Institute in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. This degree led to further studies at Lord Fairfax Community College, and eventually Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he was awarded a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1977. He was employed by Western Union as a computer center technician until it was purchased by AT&T in 1990. He continued his employment with AT&T as a network analyst until he retired in August of 2005.

Tom enjoyed reading, especially history books, and motorcycling around the country, visiting all the lower 48 states and over 130 National Parks. He would tell people that his favorite place to motorcycle by far was out in Montana, especially during the "no speed limit" era. Along with being a member of the Iron Butt Association (dedicated to safe, long-distance motorcycle riding), he was also a charter member of the Colonel James Wood II Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where at one time in his youth he served as the church organist.

He is survived by his loving sister, Margaret (husband Bruce Boppe) of Winchester, affectionately called "Re-Re" by Tom; his niece Sara of Winchester; his nephew Randolph (wife Michaela) of Catania, Italy; his cat Tille; several friends out on Back Mountain Road; and two brothers, Mason and John Cooper. He was predeceased by his parents, John Randolph Cooper and Mary Triplett Cooper; one brother, Robert Milo Cooper; and many previous cats.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10am, with a service to follow at 11am, all held at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Winchester. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
