Thomas Cox Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 3, 2022.
On Thursday, September 1, 2022, Thomas "Tommy" Perry Cox, Jr. passed away after a long and fierce battle with Cancer at the age of 82. Even though cancer took him away from this world, his life will never be forgotten by those who loved him.
He was born in Jacksonville Florida, on September 13, 1939 to Thomas and Elizabeth Cox.
He served in the US Army and was a lifetime member of IRONWORKERS LOCAL 597. Later he obtained his General Contractor's license and operated his own Construction Company. Tommy was passionate about his work as a Welder and a Contractor. During his career he worked all over the United States and the World. Some of his most memorable jobs was working on the Alaskan Pipeline, the construction of a Race Track in Puerto Rico, building Churches in Korea and restoration of and building homes in Jacksonville, Florida.
He is survived by his beloved wife Joan of more than 50 years of marriage. 1 Son, William "Billy" Daly, 3 Daughters, Sandra Cash, Robin Womack (Steve), Ginger Smith (Mike). He is preceded in death by daughter, Eileen Daly.
Being a Grandfather to 8 Grandchildren and Great Grandfather to 10 Great Grandchildren came naturally to Tommy. His Grandchildren loved his neck kisses with the tickly scratch of his beard and affectionately named him "Granddaddy Fuzzy Face". He loved spending time with them and took
every opportunity he had to tell them how wonderful and special they were.
Brothers, William "Billy" Cox (Jeanie) and James "Jimmy" Cox (Mary), as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was the strongest, toughest man we have ever known. He was selfless and always helped others. There was nothing he couldn't do. He challenged you to do better and made you believe in yourself. Motivating you with the words "nothing is impossible, you just have to find a way to make it work". Our lives are better because of Him.
We will miss this amazing man. There is a huge void in our lives because he is no longer with us.
But he fought a hard fight and now he is at peace and there is no more pain and suffering.
We know one day we will be with him again.
This Incredible Man was loved so very much and was truly Larger than Life.

To my Grandaddy Fuzzy face: as I sit here and think about all of the memories, the laughs, trips to the zoo, staying up late and watching old westerns telling me " don´t tell your mama". All of the wonderful moments that I had with you still Doesn´t seem like enough. You were an amazing man, a compassionate man, who always had time for his grandchildren . I´ll miss the warm hugs and the laugh you could hear a mile away. You are my everyday inspiration and I hope that I can one day be half the man that you were. I know your with god now, and your probably critiquing some of his buildings and adding additions. Because that´s what you loved to do. Grandaddy I love you and will see you again one day, thank you for inspiring me, and giving me the motivation every day to be a little bit better. Most importantly you showed me how important family is and no matter what to love and live like every day is your last. I hope you get some rest because we have a ton of fishing to do, until I see you again
Love, your Grandson

You were so much more than just a Grandad. The memories and lessons you have instilled in each of us will never be forgotten. I will never forget who taught me at a early age how to use power tools, hang up vinyl siding, and if blood and bones were not hanging out of a boo boo, you kept on going. I will miss your stories, zoo trips and riding around Jacksonville with you looking at buildings that you built. I will continue to instill these memories & lessons into my children and pray that my boy will grow up to be half the man you were. love and miss you Grandaddy Fuzzy Face. Love Jenny
