Thomas Creed Obituary
Thomas Alvin Creed, 81, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026. Thomas was born on June 1, 1944, in Richmond, Va. He was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Creed and Juanita Whitmore Creed.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra P. Creed; his son, James T. Creed (Danelle); his daughter, Debra C. Purks (C.C.); five grandchildren, Hillary Ritter, James T. Creed, Jr. (Isabelle), Darcy Creed, Spencer Purks and Courtney Purks; two bonus grandchildren, Rachel Ritter and Anna Ritter; his sister, Patricia Wood (Robley); many nieces and nephews; special friends, including Carole Timberlake and the Ritter family; and his beloved pets, Rocky and Pepper. Thomas was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey L. Creed; his siblings, Robert E. Creed and Carol Greiner; and close friend, H.E. Timberlake, III.
Thomas was a 1962 graduate of George Wythe High School. Following graduation, he worked at the Life Insurance Company of Virginia. He advanced his career with this same company over the next 42 years before retiring from GE in 2004. Tom enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing, golf, tennis, fantasy football, ceramics and gardening. He loved NASCAR and attending races at the Richmond Raceway. More than anything,Tom enjoyed spending time with his family. Tom carried on his father's legacy of teasing those he loved, but there was no doubt that he would be there for his family and friends whenever they were in need. He was a special husband, Daddy, Grandpa, brother, Uncle Tommy, and friend.
A memorial service will be held to honor Tom on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Bliley's-Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Bliley's from 12 noon until the start of the service. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park.
