Thomas Dauenhauer Obituary

Thomas P. Dauenhauer

November 21, 1945 - December 20, 2025

GREENWICH - Thomas P. Dauenhauer, age 80, died on December 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born on November 21, 1945, in Syracuse, NY and was the son of the late Leonard & Loretto Jane (Grier) Dauenhauer.

Thomas graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse and continued his education at SUNY Brockport. Following his graduation, Thomas began teaching for a short time before enlisting in the United States Navy. Tom served his country honorably until his discharge in 1970, when he continued his work with the federal government. Tom worked as a Special Agent for the FBI until his retirement in 2000. Tom was very proud of his career, loved his country and was a true patriot.

Following his retirement from the FBI, Tom continued his dedication to public service. From 2001–2005, he worked for the New York State Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct. From 2005–2011, he worked for the New York State Department of Public Service, Office of Utility Security.

Outside of his work, Tom enjoyed the solace of the Adirondacks, having been camping and visiting since his childhood. Tom especially loved Follensby Clear Pond. In his later years, when his daughter Hannah was little, Tom found a love for the beach and enjoyed many family vacations on Cape Cod. He was an avid skier, enjoyed golfing and watching football, and in his retirement puttering about his property.

Tom loved learning and enjoyed reading and studying. He had a strong interest in history, especially local history, including the Battle of Saratoga. He also had an interest in the bible and gospel and its various interpretations and liked reading police procedurals. Tom enjoyed baking, especially making fresh chocolate chip cookies, and proudly baked his mother's pumpkin pie for every holiday.

Above all else, Tom adored his family and counted them among the many blessings of his life. He loved watching his children and grandchildren grow and learn and could always be counted on for support. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, Ollie, Kirby and Tudor.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife Sarah (Colyer) Dauenhauer; his children, Cathleen (Joe) Dauenhauer Sullivan, Christine (John) Fischel and Hannah (Marissa McAvoy) Dauenhauer; his grandchildren, Jack, Maisie, Tommy & Henry Fischel and Tate & Ryan Sullivan and his cousins, Jim Dodd and Kathy Copich.

In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his brother, Richard (the late Nora) Dauenhauer and his cousins Rick Dodd and Jon Dodd.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 2:00pm-4:00pm at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake, NY.
