Thomas Delaney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home - Dedham on Feb. 4, 2026.
Thomas Michael Delaney died on January 26, 2026, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Born on June 24, 1952, Tom was raised in Dedham, Massachusetts by his late parents William F. Delaney and Pauline Delaney alongside his three beloved brothers, William F. Delaney Jr. (Nancy) of Bellingham, Massachusetts, Robert J. Delaney (Lynn) of Wellington, Florida, and the late Patrick J. Delaney.

Tom is survived by his wife Cynthia E. (Leonard) Delaney, his daughter Amanda Delaney Coronado and her husband Sergio Coronado, Amanda's mother Joanne Delaney, and Tom's granddaughter Sophia Coronado, all of Chicago, Illinois. Tom loved dearly his wife's children and their families, sharing many cherished memories with Ryan P. Kelley, his wife Lauren Kelley and their son Casey of West Babylon, New York, and Matthew L. Kelley, his fiancé Katelyn Cusano and their sons Luca and Lincoln of Canton, Massachusetts. Tom is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

Tom graduated from Catholic Memorial and went on to serve in the United States Army and to study at Wentworth Institute of Technology before joining the Boston Police Department and later working as a Power Director for Amtrak. He was a lifelong union member and held a leadership position with the Rail Division of Transport Workers Union of America.

A lover of history, Tom was a member of the Civil War Roundtable of Greater Boston for many years, where he enjoyed attending lectures with his brother Billy. A gifted carpenter and jack of all trades, Tom loved vintage cars and restored, among others, a 1962 Mercury Comet and a 1969 Ford Mustang. Tom loved hiking, the New England Patriots, music, long drives, and a good laugh. He will be greatly missed by the many who loved him for his charismatic charm and generous spirit.

A visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St, Dedham on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 9:00-9:45am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Dedham at 10:00am (accessible parking in the rear of the church). Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham immediately following the Funeral Mass.
