Robert Casey Obituary

CASEY, Robert "Bob" Lawrence Jr. Ph.D. Beloved husband, father, and brother, Robert "Bob" Lawrence Casey, Jr., Ph.D., passed away, on February 2, 2026, of cancer. The first of three sons, Bob was born in Boston, to Robert Sr. and Kathleen (McCabe), on September 13, 1964. He grew up in Dedham and attended Noble and Greenough School. Bob earned a Bachelor's Degree in psychology and classics at Colby College, as well as a Master's and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Georgia State University. Bob is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Anna (McCaw); his children, Robert III and Caroline; as well as his brothers, Michael (Jennifer Stanley) and Sean (Susan Campbell); and many nieces and nephews, Caitlin, Ashlyn, Anna, Lily, Rebecca, Sarah, Henry, Ben, Menté, and Tesfu. As a son, brother, husband, and father, Bob was deeply devoted to his family and brought great humor to times spent together. He was deeply committed to his children's interests and was very involved in their school athletics, sure to attend every game and activity they participated in. As a family, they lived in Hamden, Connecticut, Denver, Colorado, and Greenfield, Massachusetts. From a very young age, Bob treasured summer days spent with family in Centerville, Massachusetts on the pond, going to the beach, and getting ice cream. Bob devoted his professional life to supporting children and their families. Following his doctoral program in Atlanta, Bob joined the Yale faculty. where he worked with children and families exposed to community violence and trauma. It was during this time that he served as the Director of Training for the clinical psychology training program. He continued to focus on mentorship, teaching, and training throughout his career. His career took him briefly to Boston Medical Center, and then Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. where he began the work that would define the rest of his life, supporting the emotional well-being of pediatric cancer patients and their families. At Children's Hospital Colorado, Bob founded the Wellness Program in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, helping innumerable families navigate devastating diagnoses. Sharing his love of baseball, he built a strong partnership with the Colorado Rockies, planning what has become a favorite tradition for patients, traveling to spring training with medical staff each year to meet the players and attend a game. Bob spent many summers riding his bike in the Courage Classic in the Rocky Mountains. in community with those supporting the hospital's mission. He served on several boards dedicated to bringing joy and a sense of normalcy to children facing medical hardships, including The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Serious Fun, Camp Wapiyapi, and the Caruso Family Charities. Bob's work was honored with The Family Wellness Chair in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Bob will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know his playful sense of humor, quick wit, easy-going friendship, and dedication to family. He will be remembered by many while playing competitive card games, enjoying live music, and devouring large quantities of ice cream. A Visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, on Saturday, February 7, from 8:30-9:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Dedham, at 10:00am, (accessible parking in the rear of the church).
