Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory (43rd St. Chapel) - Bradenton on Jan. 28, 2026.
"Robert Rush Oster, known affectionately as Rush by his friends and family, passed away on January 17, 2026, in
Bradenton, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 14, 1937, in
Baltimore, Maryland, Rush's zest for life, humor, and unwavering generosity left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Rush studied business administration at Colby College in
Waterville, ME, where he laid the foundations for his future endeavors. After graduating from Colby, he volunteered for the U.S. Coast Guard, a chapter of his life that he always looked back upon with pride and fondness. Following his service, Rush channeled his people skills into a career in sales, eventually becoming a successful small business owner.
Like his mother Muriel, Rush was always available to provide advice and lift spirits, offering kindness and support to those around him. His love for his family was immense, and he was a cherished husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Oster, with whom he shared a life full of love and adventure. Together, they raised two sons, Christopher and Keith Oster, who, along with their wives Stephanie and Elizabeth, brought joy and pride to Rush's life. His grandchildren, Elle, William, Henry, Katie, and Robert Oster, were the lights of his life, and he delighted in every moment spent with them.
An active individual, Rush enjoyed exercising with friends at the gym, where his sense of humor was as much a part of his routine as the exercise itself. His laughter was infectious, and his presence could light up a room. Rush's generosity knew no bounds, whether it was his time, his resources, or his ability to offer a listening ear. He was a loving soul who gave freely without expectation of return.
Rush's interests extended beyond the walls of the gym and the confines of his business. He was a family man at heart, cherishing the time he spent surrounded by his loved ones. His children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren will forever remember the warmth of his embrace, the wisdom of his words, and the unconditional love he provided.
The words 'funny,' 'generous,' and 'loving' encapsulate the essence of who Rush was. His humor brought smiles to countless faces, his generosity lifted others in times of need, and his loving nature nurtured the bonds that will continue to live on in his absence.
As we bid farewell to Rush, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and the many ways he touched our lives. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and love-a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rush's journey on earth has ended, but his spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the lives of his family and friends. The family kindly asks that memorial contributions be directed to Tidewell Hospice in honor of Rush Oster. https://tidewellhospice.org.
