Gildo Thomas “Gil” Alfano, 92, of Sanford, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Born August 23, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Ermenegildo Giovanni Alfano and Helen Frances D’Antuono. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Alfano; son Thomas Gildo Alfano; and brother David Leo Alfano.
Gil was a 1955 graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He had a full professional career as a Sales and Marketing Executive for Eastman Kodak, Chilton Company, American Hardware, The Hearst Corporation, and Turner Construction. Gil was most proud of his U.S. Air Force service as a Jet Pilot. He was a member of Saint Stephen the First Martyr Roman Catholic Church, Sanford, North Carolina; an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, and lifelong Red Sox fan.
Gil is survived by his children Virginia Ann “Ginny” Alfano Hargarten of Wilmington, Delaware; William David “Bill” Alfano (Mary Stuart) of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina; grandchildren Louisa Ann “Lulu” Hall (Matt) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Stuart William “Stoo” Alfano (Berkley) of San Diego, California; daughter-in-law Kelly Marie Alfano of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and sister Judith Ann Finerty (Gary) of Danville, New Hampshire.
A Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to www.catholiccharitiesraleigh.org
