Thomas J. Dingman

Thomas J Dingman, retired Professor Emeritus at Rochester Institute of Technology, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025. He was 78 years old.

Born on March 10, 1947, in Amsterdam, NY, Thomas dedicated his life to education and service. He was a treasured professor and leader in the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where his commitment to teaching enriched countless lives.

While he was respected professionally, his greatest joy was treasured moments with his wife and family. Thomas was a man of action and wisdom. He will be lovingly remembered for his comforting hugs, invaluable advice, and pride in his children and grandchildren. Thomas's handiwork and love are evident in all of his family's homes, at the Elks Lodge, and even the community horseshoe pits-a lasting testament to his dedication.

Thomas was deeply devoted to his community and generously shared his time and talents. He was a wonderful coach for his daughters' softball teams and was actively involved with his son's Boy Scouts troop, serving as a mentor to young people. He gave much of his time to the church and was a proud blood donor. His love for sports was evident through his enthusiastic participation in the church recreational softball league and community adult softball leagues.

Beyond the classroom and the ball field, Thomas cherished spending time with his friends, engaging in favorite pastimes like golf, bowling, horseshoes, and shuffleboard.

A dedicated community servant, Thomas was a proud and long-standing member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #24 in Henrietta, NY, for twenty years. Furthermore, his passion for the water shone through his avid boating activities and his service as a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Sodus Point, NY.

Survived By

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila; his three children, Beth (Jason), Erin, and John (Kelly); his six cherished grandchildren; his beloved cousins Carol(Dave), Nick, and Dan(Michaela); and many close friends who were like family.

Predeceased By

He was predeceased by his loving parents, Leon J. Dingman and Concetta M. Dingman, his dear Aunt Anita and Uncle Bob Curtiss, and cousin Mary Jane Geiter.

Services and Memorials

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas's memory may be made to the School of the Holy Childhood.
