Thomas J. “Tom” Dougherty, age 98, of Havertown, PA, passed away on March 27, 2025. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret Dougherty (nee Dugan).
Tom was a proud 1944 West Catholic High School graduate. Upon completion, he enlisted in the US Army during World War II. After serving his country, he attended LaSalle University (Class of 1949) where he was a Scholar Athlete and captain of the baseball team. Tom was passionate about his 40 years working for the Donnelley Directory publishing the Yellow Pages. He was active in Annunciation BVM Parish where he was a basketball coach, lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and president of the Social Club. Tom enjoyed golfing at Rolling Green and cheering on his beloved Phillies, but, above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
Thomas was the loving husband of the late Margaret M. Dougherty for 74 years; loving father of James Dougherty (Marguerite), Thomas Dougherty (Brenda), Msgr. Paul V. Dougherty, Rosemary Conway (John), Stephen Dougherty (Beatrice), Philip Dougherty (Celine), Margaret Malandra (Samuel), Kathryn Griendling (Thomas), Joseph Dougherty (Joan), Elizabeth Radek (Daniel), and Matthew Dougherty; caring brother-in-law of Sr. Rosemary Davis, I.H.M. Predeceased by his siblings, James Dougherty, Margaret Richardson, Edna Savage, and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Dougherty. Thomas is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to Tom's Viewing 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, and to his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA 19083. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Annunciation BVM Church, 401 Brookline Blvd, Havertown, PA 19083, abvmh.org, or Camilla Hall, 100 Maxis Dr., Malvern, PA 19355, camillahall.org, would be appreciated.
