Thomas Druan Obituary

Thomas J. Druan
Devoted to family and friends
It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend after a 10 ½ year battle with cancer.
Thomas was born on 3-16-62 in Waterbury, CT. He was the son of Patricia (Hughes) Druan and the late Thomas H. Druan.
Thomas was educated at Sprague School and Sacred Heart High School where he excelled at academics, received top scholar awards in English and Math and graduated at the top of his class. In 1985, he started his career at St. Mary's Hospital where he would go on to work for 38 years. He was proud of his job and the friends he developed with his fellow co-workers there.
Thomas, or as he was more commonly known, Swami was a simple man that just liked to see people happy. His favorite times were spent with his brother and friends watching a favorite sporting event. He liked to watch all sports, but his favorites were baseball, basketball and football. His favorite teams came out of New York (Yankees, Knicks and Giants). He was a lifelong fan of these teams and saw many games live. He also enjoyed all things UCONN and if UCONN wasn't in it he would root for the Florida Gators. Thomas used his math skills for statistics and predictions earning him the nickname Swami.
His friendships continued to grow through the years. If you were friends with Swami, you stayed friends with him through life. He never met a person he didn't like, and it was evidenced through his cancer battle that his friends stood by him too. He loved to travel and aside from traveling most of the United States he went to Aruba at least once a year with Debbie, where they became honorary citizens. He also went yearly in the fall to Florida where he liked to watch the Florida Gators play the Georgia Bulldogs with his friend since Kindergarten, Chris.
Thomas was the epitome of love and kindness. He was a true friend to all. May he rest in peace, and may his memory continue to bring a smile and joy to all who knew him.
Left to honor his legacy are his mother, Patricia Druan; his brother Kevin Druan; his sister Susan Venanzi (Kevin); nephews Kevin Venanzi (Alexia) and Dylan Venanzi (Vannia); friends Debbie, Chris, Marc, Todd and Michelle, Alex and Kim, Louis and Maryann, Waco; an aunt; uncle, many cousins and numerous other friends that held a special place in his heart.
The family would like to thank everyone at The Harold Leever Center for their kind and compassionate care. Thomas became well known there and they gave Thomas strength, encouragement and support as he battled this disease like a true warrior.
Funeral services will be held on Monday July 14, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Bergin's Funeral Home, 290 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with his family on Monday morning between 9am until the service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

I wish I knew Tommy better. He sounded like someone I could have been close to; sort of a kindred spirit, I guess.
