Thomas Monroe Fix, age 88, of Shelby, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Crystal Care Center in Mansfield, Ohio.
Thomas was born on June 11, 1937, in
Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Tony and Vedna (Tyler) Fix. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 where he served for two years and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. Following his discharge from the army, Thomas met the love of his life, Marjorie (Lamb) Fix and the two of them married on April 26, 1958. They settled down together as a family in Shelby in 1962. Thomas worked for General Motors as a press operator for 47 years until his retirement in 2006.
As a young man, Thomas trained as a semi-professional boxer. He became known among the boxing community as "Irish Tommy Fix." His passion for boxing stayed with him throughout his entire life as he loved to follow and watch the sport. During the 1970's, Thomas spent time training local youth at the Friendly House in Mansfield and even sometimes trained them out of his garage at home. He loved to give back to his community by sharing his love of boxing with anyone willing to learn and train. Thomas also developed a love for playing the lottery. He enjoyed the thrill of trying to "win it big" and "retire early."
Thomas was well known and respected among his peers in the community. He was known for his selflessness and willingness to help others. He had a big heart and wasn't afraid to show those that he loved how much he cared about them. Above all else, Thomas was a family man. He prioritized his family as he truly enjoyed spending quality time with them. Some of his favorite moments came from the many family reunions held over the years, where everyone got the chance to come together and share in the joy of seeing one another. Thomas was passionate about raising awareness for muscular dystrophy because of his son, Thomas II and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Nick having the disease. He was always proud of his involvement in raising awareness for muscular dystrophy research with one particular event standing out above the rest - when he was involved with a local 24-hour roller-skating fundraiser that raised funds for muscular dystrophy research.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie (Lamb) Fix, whom he was married to for 67 years; three daughters, Debbra Allamon of Mansfield, Anna Parrish of Tiro, Ohio, and Diana (Steve) Andrews of Crestline, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christina Moore of Shelby, Amy Shore of Mansfield, Jeremy Norton of Crestline, Nicole Andrews of Crestline, and Danielle Keller of Tiro; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Pastor Roger Reed of Mansfield; and two siblings, James (Carol) Fix of Painsville, Ohio, Dr. William (Dorothy) Fix of Taylor, MI.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Thomas M. "Tommy" Fix II; siblings, Edward Fix and Joan Reed; son-in-law, Wayne Parrish; and two dear grandchildren, Benjamin Andrews and Nick Keller.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 12:00 PM with, Dr. William Fix, officiating. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
