Thomas Fowler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home and Crematory on Mar. 30, 2026.
Thomas Edward Fowler, aged 85, born on July 31, 1940. Passed away on March 28th, 2026. He died peacefully with family by his bedside. A lifelong resident of Monroe County. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1959. He worked with his father James Patrick Fowler delivering coal and ice as a young boy. Then at the Marathon Service Station on 14th Street and then later on Leonard Springs Road. He spent 4 years in the Indiana National Guard, training at Fort Knox KY. For 26 years he worked at Wetterau Foods where he was a proud Teamster. He was a member of the Clear Creek Christian Church.

He loved cars and watching the races at the Bloomington Speedway or the drag races at New Hope, or watching his grandsons, RJ McKinney and Rudee McKinney race motocross. He loved going RV camping at the State Parks. His vegetable garden was his pride and joy. Mushroom hunting for the elusive morels was his passion. He enjoyed quietly sitting by the campfire and roasting hotdogs, marshmallows and talking about family.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years Ginger (Bastin) Fowler. His daughter Julie Gale Fowler (Somers) of Barberton OH. His step daughter, Traci (Utter) McKinney and step son Todd Utter. His 2 step grandsons and 2 step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma (Jones) Fowler. His sisters Mary Louise Lynn, Phyllis Ann Barger and brother in law Richard Barger. His nephews Clifton Barger, and James Waldrip, his niece Britten Rae Benjamin, his great nephew Travis Waldrip and his step son in law Ricky McKinney of Martinsville.

In lieu of flowers, that family asks for donations to be given to Stonecroft Health Campus in his name.

Services will be at Allen Funeral Home (4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, IN 47401) on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 with visitation from 3-6pm and the funeral service at 6pm. Interment will be at Garrison Chapel Cemetery at a later date to be determined by the family. Lunch will be provided at the Clear Creek Christian Church after the ceremony.
