Thomas Richard Fragale Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2026.
Tom Fragale, 83, passed away Friday January 23, 2026 at his home in Broaddus, TX. He is the widower of Claudette (Asselin) Fragale. They shared 45 years together until her passing April 10, 2012.

Born in Winsted, Connecticut, Tom was the son of Joseph Enio Fragale and Olga Rita Teddick. He grew up in Winsted attending St Anthony's Elementary and graduating from Gilbert School in 1960. Following high school he enlisted in The United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1964. Tom then acquired an Associates Degree in Business and worked for J Fragale & Sons Paving until joining The Connecticut State Police in 1973. He was a respected State Trooper until his retirement in 1993.

Tom was a member of The Knights of Columbus since December 1964. He joined the San Augustine lodge after moving to Texas in 2014. He was a lifetime member of The NRA. He had a passion for gun collecting and enjoyed spending his down time at the range and reloading. Everyone knew he was the man to ask if they needed any advice on firearms. Other hobbies and interests included deer hunting, fishing, cooking, history, or just tinkering with projects in his shop.

Tom is survived by his daughter Laurie Cartwright, and grand kids Mackenzie Elumbaugh and Garrett Cartwright of San Augustine, TX. Other family members include his siblings: Joseph Fragale of Falls Village Connecticut, Linda Fragale of Henderson Nevada, and Anthony Fragale of Santa Rosa California. Sister-in-law Marilyn Fragale. Nephews include Michael, Danny, and Joel Fragale. And one very special niece Christine (Fragale) Delahunty.

He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to listen. He had the rare ability to share wisdom without judgement or preaching. He was loved by the community, lifelong friends, and most of all his family. Tom will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Connecticut. Friends and family will be notified once arrangements have been made.

Very sad to hear this news. Worked with Tom for years at Troop L and shared a friendship for 40 years. He was always firm but fair as a desk officer. Had a wonderful sense of humor and a knowledge about most subjects you talked about. He truly loved Texas and being close to family. His daughter and grandchildren were his world. May he rest in eternal peace. Betty
