Thomas Michael Gianola, 68, passed away on August 1, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 18, 1957, in White Plains, New York, Tom was the oldest child of Christian Gianola and Mary Patricia (Brayton) Gianola. He and his four siblings had a lively childhood filled with encouragement to explore every interest and strengthened by the family's deep connections with friends and neighbors. He graduated from White Plains High School in 1975 where he was an enthusiastic defensive player for the school's football team. He participated in many activities in his community; from reluctantly serving as an alter boy to playing the trombone in the school marching band. He spent many cherished summers at his grandparents farm in Vermont - a place that would forever hold his heart.

Tom attended the University of Vermont, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, and later received his Master of Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston. He settled in the suburbs of Massachusetts, where he built a life and a family, welcoming three children. In 1999, he moved his family across the country to Lake Stevens, Washington, where he devoted himself to his children's lives, especially through years of coaching their sports teams.

In 2014, Tom returned to Vermont and poured his energy and passion into running the Echo Lake Inn in Tyson, where he welcomed guests like family. He never failed to create a warm, lively atmosphere that reflected his own vibrant personality.

Tom was a lifelong Minnesota Vikings and New York Yankees fan. He was always ready to watch or discuss any sport regardless which teams were playing.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Michael Patrick. He is survived by his daughters Christin Torres (Travis) of Wantagh, NY, and Jessica Hylback (Spencer) of Marysville, WA; his siblings Katherine Greatwood (Chris), Nancy Hampton (Matt), Larry Gianola, and Robert Gianola (Rosalia); his granddaughter, Kennedy Torres; many nephews and one niece.

Tom will long be remembered for his quick wit, his love of Vermont and all sports, and his unwavering devotion to his family. His presence was as steady and strong as his voice - always the loudest in the room, and always full of warmth.

A Funeral Mass will be held on October 17, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Poultney, Vermont, followed by interment at St. Raphael Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place on October 18, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Echo Lake Inn in Tyson, Vermont.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to Rutland County Humane Society, where Tom found his beloved dog, She-Ra.
