Thomas Gomos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes - Durand Chapel on Dec. 15, 2025.
Thomas A. Gomos age 85 of Durand, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at his home. He was surrounded by family that loved him very deeply and thought the world of him. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 20, 2025, with visitation from 10-11am at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St., Durand, MI 48429. Fr. A. Santhiyagu will be officiating. Family will receive guests on Friday December 19, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with a Rosary prayer at 7:00 pm. A private burial will take place on a later date at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
Thomas Andrew Gomos was born on September 9, 1940, in Durand, the son of Andrew and Anna (Gracias) Gomos. After graduating from Durand High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1959 and served until 1965. On January 15, 1966, Thomas married the love of his life, Jeanette Marie Johnson.
Tom was a proud farmer all of his life. He received his pilot's license in the mid 1970s. He treated his family to an aircraft and flew them to many different places. After retiring from farming and the Flint Area Sheet Metal Workers Union, you could find him in his barn/shop "putzing around" fixing things, making copper lights for his wife, and probably drinking a beer or two. He was a music lover of many genres, always whistling to the tunes.
When Tom was not in his shop, he was busy tending to his grape vines, taking care of his beautiful yard, driving his tractor, cutting firewood or doing crossword puzzles. He loved to be on the golf course, baking bread, making wine, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching sports. He was also a proud and avid volunteer. In his early years, Tom was a president of the Durand J.C.s. He was also a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Durand, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Marine Corps League 841 and AMVETS Post 2273 where he served as Commander from 2014 thru 2016.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jeanette Gomos; children, Andrew (Jessica) Gomos, Ann (Todd) Pettyjohn and Mary (Owen) Shinabarger; grandchildren, Drew (Abby) Gomos, Hannah (Caleb) Chadwell, Jacob McDonough and Jordann (Cardell) Givens; great grandchildren, Griffin and Bryson Gomos, Ellison & Declan Givens; stepsister, Diana Dysinger; step-grandson and wife and six step-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family that thought the world of him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna Gomos; stepmother, Marjorie Bissonette; stepbrother, Terry Welch; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (David) Sedlarik.
Memorial contributions in Tom's name are suggested to the Durand Union Station, St. Mary's Catholic Church of Durand or Toys for Tots. Online condolences may be sent at www.watkinsfuneralhomes.com
