Thomas Eugene Goon, 76 of Ashland passed from this life Tuesday morning, January 27, 2026 in his home.

Tom was born on January 27, 1950 in Ashland, the son of the late Charles and Mary Etta (nee Shankland) Goon.

He graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1969.

Tom married the love of his life, the former Barbara Sue Whitcomb, on May 22, 1971.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. To all his grandchildren to whom were affectionately named either Pete or George by Grandpa Tom. He truly was both his children and grandchildren's biggest fan at their activities and was the chef behind the scenes. Tom loved supporting many local high schools and Ashland University athletics; and philanthropically supported local groups through the Eagles Charitable Donation Funds. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, golfing, bowling, and traveling. He was a devoted member of the Ashland Eagles Aerie #2178, where he served as past president and treasurer and currently secretary; and UAW Cap Council Secretary Region 2B. Tom has been a past award recipient and inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame, Eagles Father of the Year, multiple times, Eagles Member of the Year, Northwest Zone Eagle of the Year, and State Convention Grandfather of the Year. Along with his support of the Eagles, he was a member of the Hayesville Amvets, Ducks Unlimited, Ashland County Wildlife Conservation League, Wild Turkey Federation, and Pheasants Forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Barbara Goon on Ashland; one daughter, Tina Goon of Ashland; one son, Aaron (Chanda) Goon of Ashland; four grandchildren, Andrew Goon-Patterson, Adam (Emily) Harding, Avery Goon, and Allison Goon; seven great grandchildren, Zayne, Ian, Kinsley, Paisley, Penelope, Tucker, and Sutton; two sisters, Bonnie (Doug) Howell and Peggy (Mark) Kalstrom; three sisters-in-law, Karen Goon, Joyce (Dan) Snyder, and Becky Beattie; one brother-in-law, Dean Whitcomb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by Barb's parents, Virgil and Marge Whitcomb; one brother, Dick Goon; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Sheila (Bob) Mondragon and Charlotte (Jack) Dodds; and his brother-in-law, Jim Beattie.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Hedglin presiding. Interment will follow in the New Pittsburg Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashland County Humane Society, PO Box 114, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
