Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Our Tommy is at Peace

Thomas Patrick Grasso, our beloved step-son, brother, step-brother and a pure, gentle soul, passed away on August 29, 2025. Though his time with us has ended, the light he brought into our lives will never fade.

Tommy taught us all about the beauty of simple joys his enthusiasm, which was infectious. He lived in a world of wonder, whether he was journeying down the yellow brick road with Dorothy or celebrating the magic of Halloween, delighting in everything spooky especially with his favorite friendly monster, Frankenstein. His laughter was a gift, and his sweet nature touched everyone he met.

For many years, Tommy was a beloved member of the Opengate family, where he lived a full and happy life. The staff and residents there were not just his caregivers and friends; they were his community, and our family is eternally grateful for the kindness they showed him.

Tommy now joins his father, Patrick, and mother, Mary, in eternal rest.

Left to cherish his memory and sweet spirit are his loving step-mother, Lia; his sister and brother, Linda and Donald, and step-sister and step-brother, Effie and John; his extended family at Opengate; and the many friends whose lives were made brighter simply by knowing him.

We will honor Tommy's memory at a service on Wednesday September 3, 2025, 10am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. We know he wouldn't want tears, but smiles, as we remember the joy he shared. If you wish to make a gesture, please consider a donation to https://www.opengateinc.org/donation/#FundingChallenges in his name, ensuring their wonderful work continues.
