Thomas Gumm Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Sundberg Kirkpatrick Chapel on May 16, 2024.
Thomas Ray Gumm, 69, passed away peacefully in his Woodward, Iowa, home May 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid where visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. Private family burial will be in the Xenia Cemetery rural Woodward, IA. Everyone is invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life and luncheon at the Flat Tire on Highway 17 in Madrid following the service.
He was born Aug. 31, 1954, to Doc and Betty (West) Gumm in Fort Dodge, Iowa. A 1973 graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High School, Tom attended HVAC trade school in Omaha. He worked his way up from service tech at Lozier Heating and Cooling to become the majority owner in 2000. Tom retired in January of 2019.
Tom had a lifelong love of Lake Okoboji, spending weekends whenever he could after family vacations there as a child. He loved the sun on his face, leading to many outdoor adventures including boating, taking cruises and spending time in the woods at his home. He loved the beach, whether in Okoboji or one of his other favorite places, including Ft. Myers Beach FL, St. Thomas and Maui. He loved ATVs, cars, and was a huge Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Tuesday nights were often spent at wing night with his fellow Wing Nuts. His sweet tooth and love of cherries were behind his favorite drink of Sailor Jerry rum and Cherry Dr. Pepper. He loved to smile, and had a glint of fun in his eyes.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jodie, and his blended family: daughter Ashley (Kendall) Bowman; stepsons Dustin (Kendra) Devine, Dillon (Chelsey) Devine, Chad (Jill) McDowell and Scott (Brandy) McDowell; grandchildren Kenzley and Koen Bowman, Waylon and Oaklyn Devine, Aspen and Braylon McDowell, Keaton and Kiptyn McDowell and Noah Muhlbauer; sister Deb (Tim) Orness; brother Steve (Mary) Gumm and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Dan and his niece Bri.
The family would like to thank his caregivers Melissa, Friends Home Care and Hospice, Leah UnityPoint Hospice nurse, Visiting Angels and a special friend Carol Ihnen for all their care they provided to Tom and his family during this time.
The family requests memorial donations be made in Memory of Thomas Gumm, Mayo Clinic Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Department of Development Research 200 First Street SW Rochester MN 55905
