Thomas Hibbard

Thomas R. Hibbard, born May 14, 1947, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on August 28, 2026. Much beloved son of the late Carl and Mary Rita Hibbard. Loving husband of 50 years to his wife Mary. A devoted father to his sons Gregory and Michael, as well as his daughters-in-law Susie, Suzanne and his granddaughter Anastasia. Raised in the Bronx, he started his work in his younger days at the Polo Grounds, Yankee and Shea Stadium as a hot-dog hawker, something he always recalled with fond memories. Later in his life he entered the priesthood and attended the Albany Seminary for a time before finding a different calling.

While attending Columbia University, he began assisting and counseling returning Veterans from the Vietnam War as well as Conscientious Objectors with mental health issues. His new path became clear, and it was a career he pursued with a great passion. Settling in Larchmont, NY in the early 1980s he raised his family with care, compassion and support in any way he could, and would always make time for family and friends. His later years were focused on physical health, becoming a certified physical trainer and working with many clients in the Westchester and Albany areas.

In his time away from work, he enjoyed vacationing with his family to homes in Hollywood Beach Florida and Bonaire. As much as he loved to travel far afield, a yearly trip out to Rockaway Beach every summer (along with a stop at JFK to watch the planes) and to Coney Island were always something that got him most excited. Other than that, the many summer weekends spent sitting on the rocks at Manor Beach in Larchmont were more than enough. He and Mary would spend much of their later years at their peaceful country home in Chatham, NY. A lover of language, music and crossword puzzles, he kept the home filled with all kinds of different music while (sometimes) quietly cursing the NY Times crossword editor.

He will be dearly missed. Requiescat In Pace.
