It is with sadness in our hearts to announce that Thomas (Tom) Alan Hilverding, passed on from this earth on February 13, 2026, at the age of 64. After graduating from Marietta Senior High School in
Marietta, Ohio he went on to become a skilled finish carpenter, both in the United States and Bermuda, Tom viewed his trade as an art form. His dedication to craftsmanship was evident not only in his work but also in the way he imparted his skills to his grandsons and nephews, ensuring that his legacy would continue through future generations.
Tom served his country with pride as a Legal Clerk in the U.S. Marine Corps, demonstrating the same dedication to duty and excellence that he applied in all areas of his life. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a passionate spelunker and a member of the Oldtimers Cave Explorers Group in North Carolina. His creativity shone through when he designed the group's logo one year, leaving a lasting mark on the community he cherished.
Gentle and loving, Tom was a man who always made time for children and those in need. He was well-known for his teaching skills and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. An avid cat lover, Tom's compassion extended to all living creatures.
His "pride n joy" was his 1962 Thunderbird, affectionately named Emma. Tom was also renowned as the king of Christmas lights, bringing joy and wonder to many with his festive displays. His signature hat was a hallmark of his personality, embodying the warmth and friendliness that he shared with everyone he met.
Thomas was preceded in death by his grandparents Harley and Lona Hilverding and Mary E. (Orr) Rogers, his parents, Lila J. Hilverding and Charles D. Hilverding, as well as his sister, Elizabeth (Beth Ann) McCabe. He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory.
He is survived by his siblings: Patti Crosier, Michael Hilverding, Debra Hilverding, Greg Hilverding, John Hilverding, and Donald Hilverding. His children, Shannon Marie Smith, Harley Thomas Hilverding, and Lila Anne Hilverding, remember him fondly as a devoted father. Mothers of his children Robin Chapman of Bermuda and Carmen Frazier of North Carolina.
Thomas was also a proud grandfather to Kaitlin Smith (and her husband Gage), Garrett Smith (and his wife Alissa), Dalton Smith (and his wife Katelynn), and Matthew. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren Scarlett, Salem, Magnolia, and the eagerly anticipated arrival of "Lil Bit."
There are no words to describe how much Tom will be missed by his friends and family. We carry you in our hearts and our memories forever, our dear Tom.
