Thomas Holsapple Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Jun. 29 to Jul. 1, 2011.

Thomas Michael Holsapple Sr.

Thomas Michael Holsapple Sr. "Big Mike", 57, of Harrisonburg, formerly of Charlottesville, died on Monday, June 27, 2011.

He was born in Charlottesville on September 14, 1953, the son of the late Willard Franklin and Phyllis Madeline Pritchett Holsapple. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Charlotte Ann Holsapple.

He is survived by his loving companion, Tessie Bishop; six children, Thomas Michael Holsapple Jr. and his wife. Crystal, Kimberly Eubanks and her husband. Devin, Kelly Gomez and her husband. Jose, Tony Martin and his wife. Jennifer, Jeff Martin and his wife. Jamie, and Pamela Sanford; his brothers and sisters, Cookie, Raymond, Albert, Steve, Mitchie, Mark, Barbara Thompson, Katie Morris, Julie Holsapple, Brenda Mawyer; 17 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike loved the Lord Jesus first. He also loved racing and cars. He was a brick mason and construction contractor for 37 years. Mike took pride in his art as well as building homes. His life was short but he touched a lot of lives. He was generous and kind to all. He never met a stranger. He stopped to help every time he could. He treated everyone as if he was entertaining an angel. He will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by all.

"Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, And cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, For as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart" -Mary Ramish.

A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Teague Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011, at the funeral home.

Although your grief is strong, now is the time to think that perhaps they are not the stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy. We should not say, in grief, that Mike has gone, but give thanks that he was yours and was loved by many. "Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, but love leaves a memory that no one can steal." Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you all as we send our apologies that we could not be there to celebrate Mike's life.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of Mike's children, brothers and sisters. Mike was taught like the rest of us that family comes first. I know that he loved and cherished his family and we all will miss him.

Losing someone you love is a life lessons; It teaches us to cherish the time we have with together, hold tight to our memories and humbles us to be reminded that we are not in charge, we are just the pawns in the big scheme of things.

So sorry I cannot be at the funeral as I am out of town, but my thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
