Thomas Hoult Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 19, 2025.
Thomas "Dean" Hoult, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Edgewater, Fl on August 24th, 2025, surrounded by family, due to complications from Familial Amyloidosis.

Dean was born in Red House, MD, on October 30, 1942, to the late Martha Vera (Riley) and Ralph Hoult.

He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Sherry (Wine) Hoult; his children, Kendra Goheen (Keith) and Patrick Hoult (Johanna); his grandchildren, Michael Topp (Jessica), Alexandra Broback (Patrick), Caitlynn Goheen, Brady Hoult and Collin Hoult; great-grandsons, Coen, Ezra and Finn; and several nieces and nephews. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: twin brother, Paul (Gene) Hoult, Eleanor Chronister, Mary Johnson and Robert Hoult.

Dean graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1960, where he played football and ran track. His 4×100 relay team still holds the school record. He went on to attend Shepherd College, where he became a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

A lifelong football fan, Dean was a devoted season ticket holder of the Minnesota Vikings since 1982 and also spent time coaching football at Pequot High School, MN. He spent his professional career at 3M Corporation in Minnesota, before retiring after 35 years in 2003 to his home in Woodbury, MN and later to his lake home in Crosslake, MN.

Dean loved his family deeply and cherished every moment spent together. He led by example, teaching the importance of responsibility, accountability, and always keeping a sense of humor (he loved to tease). Not only was he a coach on the football field but also a coach on life, encouraging, guiding, and inspiring those around him with wisdom and heart. His gift for leadership and focus on "getting it right the first time" is one that left a lasting impression on most.

Dean was courageous in his long battle against his disease, Amyloidosis, maintaining his humor and wit. His example of acceptance, perseverance, and hope will remain a lasting inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched.

In keeping with his wishes there will not be a formal funeral but a gathering for family and friends on September 13th at their home in Edgewater, Fl from 1:00-4:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the Boston University Amyloid Treatment and Research Program: http://www.bu.edu/amyloid/donate.
