Thomas Hudson Obituary

Thomas Scott Hudson, 54, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on February 23, 2026.

Scott is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Hudson, father, Rev. Thomas Edmond Hudson, and baby sister, Jaime Meagan McDow. Scott is survived by his daughter Emerson (Thomas), mother Patsy Reed Hudson McDow, dad James M. McDow, sister Vivian H. Uchitel (Jacob), brothers Christopher J. Hudson (Allison), Reed McDow (Erin), stepsisters Lisabeth McDow (Dan) and Jenny McDow Motes, as well as his nephews and nieces, Sheridan, Madeline, Jack, Elise, Ethan, Brandon and Hudson.

Born on Sep. 2, 1971, in Augusta, and known as the "People's Reporter," Scott began his journalistic exploits in 1990 at WGAC AM/FM radio where he became known for theatrically presenting the news using sound effects and "circus" music. Scott's unique, often hilarious wit won him awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters, the Associated Press and Georgia Press Association.

In 2013, Scott released his book "The Contract on the Government" under the pseudonym Tommy Hudson and, in 2010, co-edited the book "Augusta's WGAC, The Voice of the Garden City for 70 years."

A graduate of Augusta State University, in 2020, Scott co-founded The Augusta Press newspaper with businessmen Joe Edge and Neil Gordon where he became known for fearlessly taking on corrupt politicians with his pen and writing a weekly column that dripped in sarcasm while exposing millions of dollars of misspent taxpayer's money. "Scott was definitely a legend who stood tall in Augusta media, his influence in our city will be felt for generations," said Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson.

An avid outdoorsman, Scott formed the "First Saturday Crew," a volunteer effort that cleaned tons of trash and debris from the historic Augusta Canal. Scott was also a fierce advocate for children and was instrumental in helping pass the "2010 Judicial Reform Act" which ended the statute of limitations on child molestation.

A visitation will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son on February 27, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. followed by a community farewell and memorial service at 2:00, an event open to the public. An interment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park after the service. Chris Hudson, Jacob Uchitel, Bill Brown, Dwayne Brown, Deke Copenhaver, Joe Bowles and Rev. Alan Smith (honorary) will serve as pall bearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society American Cancer Society or The Salvation Army at www. https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/
