Thomas Hulse Obituary
Published by Legacy on Aug. 23, 2025.
Thomas Lynn Hulse, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 15th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. His life was full of love, family, hard work, a passion for reading and learning, and a deep love of sports. He had a brilliant mind, a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile on his face.
Born December 24, 1936, in Quincy, Illinois to William and Mary Hulse. At the age of 9, Thomas and his family moved to Las Animas, Colorado. He enjoyed growing up in rural America with his little sister Beverly. High school is where his deep love of sports started. He participated in football and wrestling in which he excelled and later graduated from Bent County High School in 1954. He then attended La Junta Junior College for one year, then Otero Junior College for another year. He served in the army from 1956-1959 where he was stationed at Fort Carson. His Commanding Officer refused to transfer him out due to his "awesome" secretarial skills, which led him to be a Company Clerk for the entirety of his service. In March of 1960, he attended UNC on a football scholarship. He graduated in June of 1964 with a Bachelors in business and a Minor in math. In April of 1965, he was hired by GAB, and travelled the United States as an insurance adjustor. In February of 1977, he opened H&H Adjustment Services in Fort Morgan, Colorado and served the public for the next 15 years. From 1992 to 2018, he drove semi-trucks locally with the PMS Plant. From 2002 to 2018, Tom drove exclusively with J&T Trucking, which was his son's company. He finally retired in 2018 at the age of 81.
Thomas enjoyed being involved in his community. He was the Boyscout Master for Troop 25 in Fort Morgan from 1980 to 1990. He enjoyed teaching his scouts camping skills, survival skills, and took up cutting down Christmas trees for both the scout's families and his church. He was an active Kiwanis Charter member, Elks Club member, and served as Senior Warden of Saint Charles' Episcopal Church in Fort Morgan. He was an eloquent speaker and performed two wedding ceremonies and a funeral.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and William, and his sister Beverly (Ralph) Quarles, who he lovingly called BeBe. Although Tom was never good with technology, he took every chance he had to talk on the phone with his little sister and reminisce about their wonderful childhood.
He is survived by his wife, Maxann, whom he married in June of 1979. With Maxann came her three children: Stacy (Scott Shannon) Thomas, Jason (Kendra) Thomas, Keri (Jeff) Fisher. Later, Tom and Maxann had their last child, Amanda (Michael) Yearous. All four of Tom's children had children of their own; Sydnee (Thomas) Nel, Bubbi (Charity) Hansen, Max Hansen (Emily Jeffers) ; Jaxon, Emma, Neela and Retta Thomas; Elleigh and Neeva Fisher; and Anna, Mallie, and Maycee Yearous. He was very proud of all of his grandkids and loved being their "Papa". He was anticipating becoming a great grandpa this October. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed being their "Uncle Tom".
Tom was known for his unconditional kindness and infinite wisdom. If you had a question, he would almost always have the answer. Although his jokes definitely got old, the laughter afterwards never did. He was full of mischief and never passed up the chance to "spark" his wife. He will be remembered for his jokes, his warmth, his wisdom, his kindness, and his constant presence that made the room feel a little happier. He will forever be missed.
The family will be having a private service.
