Thomas Alva Jones (Tom) was born in 1939 in Akron, Ohio to the late Jesse W. Jones and Garnet G. Jones. He was one of three siblings, brother David (deceased) and sister Judy Jones Hazard of Florida. In 1961 he married Betty Hill just before graduating from Akron University. He was commissioned into the United States Army as a second lieutenant.
His treasured accomplishments include retiring as a Colonel after proudly serving 29 years in the United States Army, bicycling across Florida as a founder of the Tampa Grupetto Club, and serving on the Hillsborough County Commissioners Board where he coordinated the origination of the Carrollwood Cultural Center in Tampa, Florida.
He is a charter member of the 101st Airborne Division Alamo Eagles Chapter, Sons of The American Revolution, William Hightower Chapter, and the Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, son Timothy (Brenda) and daughter Cynthia Jones Gibson (Parks, deceased). Grandchildren include Christina Jones Hester (Amanda), Andrew Jones (Jennifer) and Kristen James (Terry). Great-grandchildren are Amber James, Benjamin James and great- great grandson Dyllan James.
Services at Schertz Funeral Home include a visitation August 6th, from 5pm - 8 pm. Funeral Service will be August 7th, at 9 am with a procession immediately to follow, going to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered. His final resting place will be burial at Arlington National Cemetery in D.C.
