Thomas Anthony Kachnowski, age 80 years, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday evening, October 26, 2025, with his devoted wife by his side. Born on January 14, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late George and Orpha (Jagenow) Kachnowski.
A distinguished physicist and engineer, Tom had an impressive career marked by his contributions to several high-tech companies. Most recently, he dedicated his efforts as the Coordinator of Medical Emergency Volunteers for the Hunterdon County Health Department, showcasing his commitment to community service.
Tom's educational journey began in Michigan, where he developed a strong foundation in the sciences. He earned his PhD. from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and further advanced his studies with post-doctoral work at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Tom was not only a scholar but also a gentleman who lived with humility and grace, exemplifying nobility in his interactions with others. Known for his kindness and hospitality, he touched the lives of many, establishing deep connections throughout his life.
A passionate lover of music, especially jazz, Tom enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, often sharing his love for music with family and friends. His adventurous spirit led him to travel around the world, indulging in his passion for food and rich cultural experiences. He also was a polyglot and a dedicated ham radio aficionado. Additionally, he found fulfillment in supporting his community as a literacy volunteer, helping individuals gain the essential skill of reading.
Tom's life was beautifully intertwined with that of his beloved wife, Souad (Khoury) Kachnowski, whom he met in Paris, France, and later married in 1978. Their bond, celebrated over 47 years of marriage, was a testament to their enduring love. He is survived by his cherished daughters, Vera (and her husband Amer) and Tina; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Audrey and Amalia. He is also survived by six siblings and their spouses, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law in Lebanon, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
