Thomas Finley "Tom" Layell

LAYELL, Mr. Thomas "Tom" Finley, 80, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2023. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 56 years, Mary Page LaPrade Layell; father to his children, Kevin Willard (Tonya), Kimberly Irene (Mike), Kristin Adora (Paul); grandfather to Mikayla Rose (Jay), Emma Layell (Santi), Elizabeth Grace, Madelyn Faith, Caleb Thomas; great-grandfather to James Thomas. Tom believed education was a lifelong experience. He was employed as an Operations Manager with Equitable Financial Life Insurance Company for 36 years and Milestone Financial Solutions for 14 years, during which he earned his Applied Studies degree in Management and Leadership at the University of Richmond, his Master of Science in Management from the American College and attained his professional designations CLU, ChFC, FLMI. During retirement, he continued to live his passion for learning, taking numerous courses through the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Richmond on a regular basis. Tom loved the Lord and Liberty Christian Church and School. He served as Liberty's Treasurer, Deacon and Elder for many years. When Liberty merged with Pole Green Church of Christ to become Compass Christian Church, he continued to serve as Elder. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Hanover Memorial Park, 4447 Mechanicsville Tpke, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Compass Christian Church MOVE Initiative in Mechanicsville, Va.
