Thomas James Lindgren

Thomas James Lindgren, age 84, of St. Anthony, passed away unexpectedly at home on the morning of February 24, 2026. In his passing, our family lost a truly great man-a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Born August 4, 1941, in St. Paul, Tom was a proud graduate of Cretin High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete and served as Lieutenant Colonel in the ROTC. He went on to earn two Master's degrees from St. Thomas, fueling a 33-year career as a teacher and guidance counselor. The majority of those years were spent at Irondale High School, where he helped thousands of students navigate the complexities of life with his trademark down-to-earth nature and quick wit.

Tom's true north was his family, anchored by his 60-year marriage to his wife, Irene. They were more than just soulmates; they were each other's best friend. Inseparable in every sense, they did everything together-a rare match that served as an inspiration to everyone who knew them.

He never once said he was "too busy" for those he loved and never missed a single one of his children's sporting events. Tom was the family's ultimate resource; he always had the perfect tool for any task, could fix anything that broke, and could answer any question-even if it was something as obscure as the British Royal Family. He had a way of offering deeply caring advice that was often times humorous and always sincere.

Tom was a gifted storyteller whose amusing tales could make anyone laugh. He found his greatest joys in the simple moments: reading mysteries, fishing with Jack, gardening with his granddaughters, and spending time at the cabin. He loved boat rides, relaxing on the deck, playing cards, and, above all, laughing together with his favorite people. He will be deeply missed.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Irene; daughter Kristen Varpness (Vince); sons Erik Lindgren (Alesia D'Agostino) and TJ Lindgren; grandchildren Jack, Danica and Carly; and sister Diane Bifulk (Frank). He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Antoinette.

Funeral Mass will be on Friday, March 6 at 11:00am with visitation at 10:00am at Church of St. Charles Borromeo, 2739 Stinson Blvd NE, St. Anthony, MN 55418. Lunch will follow, where guests are invited to share their favorite memories of Tom. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
