Thomas Lowary Obituary

Thomas Edward Lowary, age 71, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Tom was born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he met his wife, Cindi. After his discharge from the Air Force, Tom and Cindi moved to Michigan. Tom enjoyed traveling, fishing, riding his Harley, and being active in his woodshop and taking long walks. He was a long-time member and supporter of Boy Scouts Troop #250 of Byron Center and Byron Center United Methodist Church. Tom was a hardworking, dedicated man. He was a helping hand and mentor to many. He enjoyed a good game of Euchre and always liked to "participate" in his own way. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Lowary and mother, Phyllis Killen. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucinda "Cindi"; children, Daniel (Michelle) Lowary, Jennifer (Cristian) Borcan, Michael Lowary; grandchildren, James, Mackenzie, Gerrit, Gus; sisters and brothers, Cindy (Scott) Walker, Steve Lowary, Diane Anderson, Karen Lampe, Leroy (Diane) Lowary; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Penny Meyerink, Gary (Mary) Meyerink, Sherry (Tim) Rider, Robin (Dave) Leclerc; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, from 5 to 8 PM at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, 49508. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, at 11:30 AM, at Byron Center United Methodist Church, 2490 Prescott St. SW, Byron Center, 49315. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Tom may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, or the American Brain Tumor Association.

Yesterday

I remember spending dinner for 8 at your house and getting a tour of the woodshop! So talented! I also remember going fishing in Frankfort....it ended up with a man overboard...so that was an interesting day. I'm grateful to have you in our church. Tom will be missed for so many reasons. He was a very special man. Condolences to the entire family.

Yesterday

Always enjoyed out time with Tom and your family! The love, the kindness, the humor, and the support you all show your family is a beautiful thing to witness! I remember Tom being the ultimate "fixer" of all things. When you all were in ND for Westin's graduation and he noticed our screen door was sticking and he went right into 'work mode,' to ensure we had a working patio screen! Sending our love and BIG hugs to you all, while also sending prayers for peace, strength and comfort as you navigate the loss of such a humble man! Love you all!!
