Thomas Jerome Mahoney

Thomas Jerome Mahoney, 75, of Green Bay, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025 surrounded by family. Born on November 26, 1949, he is the son of the late Jeremiah and Marion (Sieben) Mahoney. He married the former Susan Engimann on June 12, 1971, in Joliet, IL, they have been married for 54 years. Tom graduated from Joliet West High School class of 1967. He then went on to Northern Illinois University where he received his Bachelors Degree in Earth Science (Meteorology) along with a Masters of Science in Education. He attended Northwestern University for graduate work. Tom's first job was as a teacher in Palatine, Illinois. Sue and Tom moved to Green Bay where he was the weekend meteorologist at WFRV and was a earth science teacher at Oconto Middle School. He then became a meteorologist at KWTV in Oklahoma City, OK. Tom then became Chief Meteorologist at WISN in Milwaukee, WI. Next, he was Chief Meteorologist at Christian Broadcasting Network for the national television show, USam. Tom and Sue then moved back to Green Bay in 1982 where he was Chief Meteorologist at WFRV until he retired in 2013. Additionally, Tom was an adjunct professor at UWGB where he taught Meteorology and served on many national boards for the American Meteorological Society.
Thomas was ordained a Deacon on May 16, 2009, in the Roman Catholic Church at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay by Bishop David L. Ricken. He served as a Deacon for Saints Peter and Paul, St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, and St. John the Evangelist. Thomas was also assigned to UWGB Catholic Campus Ministry. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus at several councils.
He was heavily involved in his community through Families of Children with Cancer, Christian Outreach Ecumenical Thanksgiving Dinner, and various other charitable organizations.
Tom enjoyed traveling the world, especially to Hawaii with Sue. One of his passions in Hawaii was scuba diving where he was a Master Scuba Diver. Music was very dear to his heart. He was a percussionist in the Joliet High School Band and continued going back every year for the alumni concert.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Mahoney; children, Steve (Jennifer) Mahoney and their children, Abby and Joselyn (Tanner); Michael (Kelly) Mahoney and their children Quinn and Peyton; Molly (Kevin) Stanley and their children Connor, Patrick, Sean, and Colleen; Daniel (Danielle) Mahoney and their children Henry, Jack, Adam and Andy; Timothy (Jennifer) Mahoney and their children Fulton and Adele; son in law, Robert Signaigo; siblings, Patricia (Steve) Thomson, Margaret Kaluzny; God daughter, Jane Sheehan; cousin, George Mahoney III; many other nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah (Marion) Mahoney; daughter Amy (Mahoney) Signaigo; father and mother-in-law, James (Shirley) Engimann.
Visitation at St. John the Evangelist, 427 St. John St., Green Bay, WI, 54301, Wednesday November 12, from 4 PM until 8 PM. Parish Wake Service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 139 S. Madison St. from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Bishop David L. Ricken officiating.
