POTOSI – Thomas J. “Mott” Martin, age 68, of Potosi, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at his home in Potosi, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 5, 1954, in Platteville, the son of Merwyn H. “Bud” and Grace (Osborn) Martin. Mott graduated from Potosi High School in 1972. Following graduation, he was employed at Kowalski-Kieler, John Deere, and most recently, Artco. Mott served as a captain and pilot with Artco until his retirement in 2015. He also logged and owned and operated S&M Sawmill. In 1992, he was united in marriage to Rose Melssen. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Potosi. Mott enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends at his cabin.
Survivors include his loving wife, Rose; children: Emily, Rachel, Abraham, and John; his siblings: Jeff, Gail, Joann Plear, and Dick Martin; his mother-in-law, Mary Melssen; his step mother-in-law, Jean Melssen; his in-laws: Dennis (Deb) Melssen; Janet (Steve) Ames; Judy (Rod) White; Lisa Udelhoven; Eric Melssen; Tammy Althaus; and Emil Melssen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mott was preceded in death by his siblings, Anita Martin, Linda (Clay) Knox; his father-in-law, Charles Melssen; a sister-in-law, Lori (Bartles) Melssen; brother-in-law, Tim Plear; and a niece, Jennifer Zink.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is assisting the family.
