Thomas Michael McInerney Sr.

THOMAS M. McINERNEY, SR. July 17, 1927 - April 30, 2013. Tom is survived by his wife Jackie of 64 years. He considered her the biggest blessing in his life. Left behind are his loving children Dianne (Mike Berry), Tom Jr. (Sue), Dan (Karen), Kathy Hirschfield (Tom) and the late Jimmy (Debbie); his grandchildren Jennifer Marsh (Jay), Michael Berry (Carolyn), Michelle Lord (Eric), Bridget Trbovich (Scott), Cliff Weeks, Rebecca McInerney, Meghan Berry, Matthew Hirschfield (Karen), Danny McInerney Jr. (Julie), Jaclyn Hirschfield and Hayley McInerney; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is the dear brother of Martin "Hoot" McInerney (Pat), Joanne Persico (Rudy), Jack McInerney (Carol) and the late Mary Cischke (the late Mike); and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Tom was born in Detroit to the late Martin and Marcella (Clancy) McInerney, and spent his entire life in the Detroit area. His career as an auto dealer spanned several decades. Starting at age 17, Tom was in the auto business for 65 years. Since 1977, he has owned McInerney's Woodhaven Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram. Tom was an example of how to live life to the fullest. He was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. After his lung cancer diagnosis in December he said, "No one has had a better life than me. God blessed me with healthy children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I've traveled the world and my life has been abundant. It doesn't get any better." Tom was heavily involved with the charity, JDRF. In fact, they are honoring him at a dinner on Friday for his long term commitment and generosity. Please remember the happy memories you had with him. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday, May 3 from 2-8 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy (between Maple & Big Beaver), 248-362-2500, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, May 4 - 10 a.m. at St. Hugo of the Hills Church, 2215 Opdyke Rd., Bloomfield Hills.
