Thomas R. "Bompo" McKay, 62 of Minonk passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025 at University of Chicago Medical Center surrounded by family.

Tom was born December 5, 1963 in Streator, a son of John R. and Kay Zenzen McKay. He married Tami M. Wiechman on December 28, 1991 in Minonk. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Kay McKay of Minonk; two daughters, Shannon (Luke) Lindgren of Wenona and Sidney (Lucas Timmerman) McKay of Minonk; one son, Mitchell (Karah Colebank) McKay of Wenona; two brothers, Tim (Jan) McKay of Eureka and John (Kimberly) McKay of Minonk; one sister, Kim (Tom) Colburn of Secor; and his mother-in-law, Sharon Wiechman of Minonk.

He was preceded in death by his father, John R. McKay, his father-in-law Wayne Wiechman, and his snack sharing companion, Murphy.

Tom was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years. He served for over 30 years on the Minonk Fire Department where he currently is a Lieutenant. He was employed by Mitsubishi Motor Company and later Full Circle Industrial.

Bompo most enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved fixing anything and everything, including the Dune-Buggy. Always willing to help others with small projects. Bompo loved vacationing- especially around water. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Visitation will be on Sunday January 4, 2026 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Ruestman Harris Funeral Home, Minonk. Recitation of the rosary will be prior.

Mass of Catholic Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Minonk. With visitation one hour prior. Franciscan Friars will officiate.

Burial will be at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Minonk.

Memorial Contributions in his honor may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or Minonk Firemen's Association.
