Thomas P. McShane, born February 13, 1960, died the very moment his wife died in 2019. In Tom's own words
I have never understood obituaries. When I was alive, I never read an obituary of someone I did not know. So if you knew me when I was alive, why do you have to read this while I am dead?
I was born and raised in Frankfort, NY. I had an outstanding childhood; great family, a lot of friends and lots of stuff to do: fishing, parachuting, baseball and swimming. I went on to college at HCCC and at Fredonia State University. Why I went to college? I do not know! I don't like school and I found it pointless.
But, as a blessing from God, my life turned out very well. While in college, I met my wife, Elaine. She was also a blessing. We were wed on October 22, 1988 and I was blessed enough to be married to someone with whom I was upside down in love with! We were married for thirty years until she died in 2019. We built a nice life in Rochester and I have no regrets.
I worked several different places through the years. When I found myself in a situation when I dreaded getting up in the morning and didn't like the boss that I had, I moved on to something else. I was not going to be miserable every day.
I was predeceased by my parents, JoAnn (Seppi) McShane in 2014 and Donald E. McShane in 2021; and of course, my beloved wife, Elaine M. (Battista) McShane, in 2019.
I don't ask for anything posthumously. Don't offer prayers for me. I do ask that you offer prayers for those in positions they do not care for; they are lost in life. I ask that you pray they find direction in life and become leaders.
There's not going to be a big funeral but if you wish to do something you can leave money to Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse or Rochester. Envelopes will be available at the church service.
Thank you to my many cousins whom I love. I am sorry for not saying thank you often enough. To my good friends, MaryAnn and Jim Carroll and children, Michael and wife, Victoria, Christina (Eric Berney) and Anna (Kevin Snyder): I love you all.
To the best neighbors, Richard and Laura Baliva and their daughters, Laila and Leah, I love you.
To my aunt, Rosemarie Button, the gratitude to you and Uncle Randy could fill this entire page. I would like to thank you for how you treated me and how you've loved me. Growing up with Mike, John and Jim were like having brothers. I wish everyone had special people in their lives like you!
To Mary Jean and Jody Grippe and Geri Ann Button, thank you so much for everything, especially the last few years when you've been very helpful.
Prayers and blessings as well to my sister-in-law, Carleen Battista.
And lastly, to my beloved caregivers for everything you've done for me throughout the years: you know who you are.
